Kashiwa Reysol 4-2 Gamba Osaka

next
Despite out-shooting their hosts Gamba Osaka went down to a 4-2 defeat to already relegated Kashiwa Reysol to end a run of eight wins in-a-row, and finish their 2018 season with disappointment. Thanks to Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, though, the team managed to pull themselves off the bottom of the division and end the season in a creditable 9th spot, although a win in this one would have seen them end up in 6th!

Kazuma Watanabe, heading home at the far post in the 26th minute, equalised an early strike from Daisuke Suzuki - heading home as he jumped between Gamba defenders - and it looked as if the teams would go in level before the home team added a goal on the stroke of half time. Ademilson saw his shot saved with a desperate defensive block a minute before when Yusuke Segawa blasted home at the other end to give the home team the half time lead. They then scored one moments after the 2nd half kicked off, when Yuta Nakayama's near post strike took a deflection to fool the Gamba goalkeeper and Reysol took control of the scoreboard, somehow. Looking to prove themselves worthy of new contracts in 2019, under the eye of former manager Nelsinho, the home team took their chances well and Cristiano added a fourth goal with a shot from the half way line after the Gamba midfield has lost the ball to him high up the field! Ademilson then finished off one of Gamba's chances - with a fine dribble and an unstoppable shot to pull the away team back to within two goals. But 4-2 was how it stayed.

A roller-coaster season was done and we can look forward to a new campaign under manager Miyamoto as Gamba look to continue the improvement seen after he took over. Bring on 2019!
