Albirex Niigata 2-3 Gamba Osaka

next
Gamba Osaka continued their unbeaten start to the 2017 J1 campaign with a well-deserved 3-2 away win at Albirex Niigata. After the disappointment of a very harsh penalty kick decision had robbed them of two points against Urawa Reds, it was good to see the boys in blue and black (or actually white in this match!) get back to winning ways.

Goals from Shu Kurata, Jungya Kim and Yosuke Ideguchi allowed the away team to come home with maximum points in a five goal thriller. Gamba started the way they meant to go on as Ideguchi stole the ball from the home team after their kick off and shot over within 12 seconds of the start!

Kurata's strike was a thing of beauty as he took the ball away from goal, pursued by four defenders and then turned and blasted home at the far post in the 9th minute!

Albirex drew level when Fabio was adjudged to have caught Roni as he received the ball and turned. The Niigata man's spectacular fall made sure the referee saw the offence, and also earned the Gamba defender an undeserved yellow card. The PK was duly converted and the teams were level in the 17th minute.

Gamba should have been ahead in the 37th minute after a sweeping move down the right wing saw the far post cross headed back across goal by Shun Nagasawa for Kurata to head over from point blank range, with the goalkeeper gratefully watching the ball go over.

Ten minutes after the break and it was Roni who put the home team ahead, running on to a through ball and blasting through Masaaki Higashiguchi, who got a hand to the ball, but couldn't stop it going in.

Gamba then brought the game level again in the 76th minute when Kim headed home an Ideguchi inswinging free kick to make it 2-2. But the away team weren't settling for a draw and went looking for the winner. That winner came from Ideguchi himself, who started a move out on the left wing before moving inside to pick up a loose ball and feint to beat the defenders before blasting home to give Gamba the win!
