With this match moved forward to allow Gamba an extra day to prepare for their coming Asian Champions League tie on Tuesday, the home team took the opportunity to move within a point of leaders Urawa Reds, who have their game of this round still to play, of course.
Playing a 4-4-2 - which is more suited to Jim Izumisawa's play, the number 39 getting the start against his former team - Gamba didn't seem to miss their growing list of injured players, which includes Fabio, Yasuyuki Konno, Hiroto Goya and Ademilson, The team even managed to rotate the squad a little ahead of that ACL match, with Yasuhito Endo, Shun Nagasawa and Ryo Hatsuse all starting from the bench tonight.
In a nutshell, it was Gamba's game all the way so let's just look at the goals...
Yosuke Ideguchi opened the scoring in the 16th minute after Izumisawa had bamboozled the defence and slipped the ball to the side for the youngster to rifle home from outside the area.
Izumisawa himself scored the second goal in the 41st minute, curling the ball home at the far post after a superb flowing passing move found him the space on the left of the area.
Shu Kurata made it 3-0 nine minutes after the restart, when he pounced on a rebound after Jungo Fujimoto's shot had been fumbled.
It was 4-0 when Ritsu Doan scored his first ever J1 goal with another superbly-placed shot from the edge of the area. Genta Miura rose at the far post and beat FOUR defenders to head home for the fifth Gamba goal of the night, while Doan added his second, and Gamba's sixth, with a pinpoint placing of the ball at the far post with the 'keeper left helpless yet again.
Six goals, three points and a confidence booster ahead of the must-win ACL match next week!
