Shu Kurata was the first home player to be denied a goal - as early as the 6th minute - and possibly the best chance of the half, when a slick passing move begun by Genta Miura in his own half opened up the space for Kurata, but his shot was straight at the 'keeper.
Early in the 2nd half it was Hwang Ui-jo finding space at the back post to head a Yosuke Ideguchi corner just over when it seemed easier to score.
Cristiano then conspired to miss two easy chances to let Gamba off the hook as they left space looking for a goal. The goal that decided the game came when Ademilson gave away way the ball deep in the opposition half as Gamba players streamed forward. The quick transition pass to Ito upfield gave the player time and space to consider options and he cut inside and unleashed a curler into the unguarded corner.
With Gamba attacking even more, looking for the equaliser, it was Shun Nagasawa's turn to miss a chance as he found space to meet a cross from the right with five minutes to go, but his free header was weak and missed the goal completely and that was it. A loss barely deserved, but was a win deserved? Gamba need to take more chances to rise up the table to where they belong.
