Gamba Osaka 2-3 Kashiwa Reysol

next
Gamba Osaka found themselves knocked out of the Emperor's Cup - and with that probably said goodbye to AFC Champions league football in 2018. With the announced departure of manager Kenta Hasegawa at the end of this campaign, and the presumed lack of ACL play next year, it will be a season of rebuilding, renewal, and, who knows what by the time the end of the season comes... but we are getting ahead of ourselves!

Kashiwa Reysol took this game out of the reach of Gamba with three goals in eight minutes either side of half time. Cristiano popped in the 1-0 goal for a half time lead, then Taiyo Koga added another three minutes after the restart, with Cristiano making it 3-0 on 52 minutes.

Then Gamba finally woke up... one defender was sacrificed minutes after the goal, as Kim made way for Shuhei Akasaki, and Shun Nagasawa pulled a goal back on the hour mark. Then Koki Yonekura replaced Ryo Hatsuse for fresh legs on the right wing after 68 minutes and next on the scoresheet was Yosuke Ideguchi, ghosting in at the far post to pull Gamba closer to their opponents.

The home team racked up corners and possession, and out-shot their opponents but what really only mattered was the scoreline and Gamba exited the Emperor's Cup!
