Omiya Ardija 2-2 Gamba Osaka

Omiya Ardija almost held out through a final Gamba Osaka onslaught but an additional time goal from Shun Nagasawa rescued an away point for his team, when three points would really have been deserved in the end.

Yosuke Ideguchi gave Gamba a lead just before the half hour mark and it was 1-0 at the break before the home team overturned it in the 2nd half, going ahead on an own goal from Nagasawa. Then the late drama pulled back a point for the Osaka team.

Gamba should have gone ahead in the 20th minute when Jin Izumisawa pulled back a deep cross from the right wing to the in-rushing Ideguchi but his first time shot was hit straight at the fortunate 'keeper. Seven minutes later it was Izumisawa in on the action again as he rounded a player - and could have easily gone down for the PK as the panicked defender protested the innocence of his mis-timed challenge - then managed to pull the ball back into the path of Ideguchi via a ricochet off a defender. The Japan international in turn lucky as his volley deflected off Kosuke Kikuchi and over the line. A little justice - or justification - for Izumisawa staying on his feet, perhaps?! 1-0 at the break, but should have been more.

The home team were level shortly after the restart as Mateus pounced on a loose ball at the end of the area - ghosting in completely unseen at the back, his textbook half volley giving Masaaki Higashiguchi no chance!

It was Nagasawa who gave Ardija their lead when he headed home an inswinging Genki Omae corner as his goalkeeper came up behind to punch clear and suddenly Gamba were behind!

Koki Yonekura - on as a sub - found space on the right to give Hwang Ui-jo a chance with 15 minutes to go but his bullet header was saved by the home 'keeper, Yonekura then robbed the defender who tried to clear the rebound and was scythed down only for the referee to give offside, although in this writer's opinion this was already the "next phase" of the play. Lucky Ardija.

Nagasawa then hit the bar from close range as Gamba looked for the equaliser - and more. The big striker eventually got the leveling goal - thereby scoring at both ends - with a superb half volley on the turn after Genta Miura had headed on a long ball.
