Shonan Bellmare 1-0 Gamba Osaka

next
After an impressive win over Osaka neighbours Cerezo in the Osaka Derby last weekend, Gamba looked to build on that vital win and kick-start their season with another victory to start moving up the table. Just as the game after their last win, though, things did not go to plan and, once again, after a difficult win to impress J.League watchers, Gamba went down to a lesser team and have to start all over again.

Gamba started this match without Fabio, who was suspended - he was replaced by Shunya Suganuma - and, of course without Masaaki Higashiguchi in goal, after the serious facial injuries he sustained in the Osaka Derby. Leo Takae also got a start in midfield while the youngsters continued to see time on the field, with Keito Nakamura and Ryotaro Meshino coming on as substitutes.

The home team went ahead in the 16th minute after Shunsuke Kikuchi pounced on a second ball after an initial blocked shot and half volleyed home through a forest of legs. After that Gamba 'keeper Mizuki Hayashi kept the score to 1-0 at the break with some comfortable saves when he was called upon.

The 2nd half began much the same way and, for the Gamba watcher, the only chance of note came when Oh Jaesuk pulled a deep cross back to Hwang Ui-jo in front of goal, the Korean striker's blast hitting the outside netting. That really was as good as it got for the away team. Back to the drawing board!
