Gamba Osaka 1-1 Jubilo Iwata

It was another one of those days for Gamba Osaka. A day - or night - when they dominated a game, created chances galore, passed rings around the opposition and then came out with yet another draw. The fact that the points were lost to a last-seconds penalty kick made this result even harder to swallow.

The game seemed to be falling into the hands of Gamba early on, after Jubilo's latest acquisition - striker Lukian - earned two yellow cards, both fully-deserved (the first, a two-footed off the ground tackle on Yuto Suzuki could have been a red in itself) within moments of each other and before the quarter-of-an-hour was up! The second yellow came as the clock ticked over 14 minutes, as the player smashed the ball into the crowd after a foul had been given.

Minutes after the dismissal Gamba were almost ahead as Patric met a Kosuke Onose cross from the right and Jubilo 'keeper Kaminski somehow scooped the ball out, with Patric claiming it was already over the line. The goal did vome just before the break, though, with Onose again taking a pass on the right, but this time cutting inside and curling in what seemed like a cross with his left foot. The ball eluded everyone and Kaminski was caught in two minds as Takashi Usami steamed in and seemed to be about the make contact. Instead the ball just carried on with its trajectory and settled into the back of the net.

While it seemed all Gamba for the 2nd half there were no real clear cut chances until the 81st minute. Substitute Shinya Yajima cut outside a defender - was dragged back, but did not go down, otherwise it would have a clear penalty kick - and slipped the ball back to Usami who blasted against the bar.

Gamba once again had the chance to seal the points when Shu Kurata and the big Brazilian himself combined in the centre of the field. Kurata then fed the overlapping Ryu Takao who advanced down the right before sending a teasing cross to Patric who directed his header down and past the 'keeper, but also past the post!

The home team them came to regret their profligacy as the ball went up the other end and Jubilo substitute Masato Nakayama fell over between Gamba defenders and even seemed surprised himself to get the penalty kick. The home crowd of over 37,000 fans were silenced, and Nakayama picked himself up and converted the PK for an undeserved point for the away team. Gamba meanwhile took their 4th draw in-a-row, and it was the third game in four that they had conceded a very late equaliser.
