It started well with Takashi Usami's early goal but by half time the home team were level and then took the points on a 64th minute goal from Tomoki Iwata. In fact it had almost started with a goal within a minute of kick off, as Usami shot against the bar from distance after an intricate passing move had found him space. The former Bayern Munich forward did open the scoring eventually, though, and what a strike it was, a left foot pile-driver low into the 'keeper's left hand post after Ademilson had fed the ball through. An unstoppable low, left-footed blast.
Trinita were level six minutes before the break, after a quickly-taken free kick found the away defence not ready for the swift move that ended with a fortunate poke through the legs of Gamba 'keeper Masaaki Higashiguchi. 1-1 at the break, although Gamba were almost ahead again after Ademilson headed against the post from an Usami cross just before the half time whistle.
The home team took the lead 20 minutes after the restart as an outswinging corner was headed back in towards the far post and Shunya Suganuma had left his man wide open, the scorer trapping and finishing under no pressure whatsoever.
Gamba manager Tsuneyasu Miyamoto then made three changes over the next quarter of an hour as he tried to get his team back into the game but it was all to no avail and Katanosaka got one over his old masters and took all three points.
