Shimizu S-Pulse 1-2 Gamba Osaka

Gamba Osaka once again started a J1 game with three backs, flanked by Kosuke Onose and Hiroki Fujiharu this weekend. Yoksuke Ideguchi was tasked with controlling the central midfield as Shu Kurata and Shinya Yajima supplied ammunition for the forwards - Ademilson and Takashi Usami.

This was an end to end game, wit both teams playing passing and possession football. Gamba came close to opening the scoring in the 21st minute after some sustained pressure was met with strong defence before Ademilson finally curled a shot in that was heading for the top corner. The shot forced a fine save from young goalkeeper, Togo Umeda.

Gamba did finally beat the 'keeper minutes before half time when an attack down the left saw Usami take the ball forward before passing inside to Fujiharu, steaming through the channel. He moved toward goal before slipping the ball across the area to Ademilson as Onose allowed the ball to run through him. Gamba's Brazilian star one-timed it back into the centre for Onose to swing a right foot and slide the ball home!

Gamba 'keeper Masaaki Higashiguchi was then called into action just before the hour mark, getting in the way to make a fine save from Carlinhos as he tried to blast the ball home after an error in the away defence had led to the opening. But the home team did manage to draw level in the 84th minute when Yugo Tatsuta rose high at the back post to head home and make the score 1-1.

After the equaliser both teams showed they were not settling for a draw but it was Gamba who got the winner as Fujiharu, again finding space on the left pulled the ball back for Kazuma Watanabe, on as a late substitute. The former Vissel Kobe man still had plenty of work to do but took the ball across the area, feinted to take out two defenders then slipped the ball in at the near post for his second important late goal in an many games. Three points, an away win, Gamba march on!
