Vegalta Sendai 1-4 Gamba Osaka

Gamba Osaka went 1-0 down to an early goal, before storming back to take an impressive 4-1 away victory at Vegalta Sendai in this J1 contest. The game was notable for Yuki Yamamoto being given a place in the starting XI, and the youngster was on the scoresheet less than 10 minutes after kick off! A very impressive game was ended with a late substitution and an ovation from the bench, and he was replaced by another up-and-coming Gamba U23 graduate in Shuhei Kawasaki, as manager Tsuneyasu Miyamoto underlined the promising future of this team.

Some lacking of concentration and marking from an early corner saw the away team go down 1-0 early on, but it was all one-way traffic after that, even though we also saw Masaaki Higashiguchi save a penalty kick to keep that traffic going in the right direction!

As noted, it was Yamamoto who brought Gamba level with a superb strike from the edge of the area, taking the ball as it came to him, slipping aside to fool a defender, then sending a right-foot blast into the 'keeper's right hand side netting! A goal in his first J1 start was duly celebrated with the rest of the team.

Ademilson gave Gamba the lead as the 15-minute mark approached, reacting instantly to readjust his body position to get onto a near-post header from Genta Miura, who was trying to head home a Takashi Usami corner. 2-1, 15 minutes! Higashiguchi was then called upon to keep his team in the game as the home team tried to level the scores, a couple of saves from Alexandre Guedes preceded the stopping of Takuma Nishimura's PK and the score remained 2-1 to the away team at the break.

It took our heroes until the 74th minute to extend the scoreline, with Shu Kurata curling a strike into the top corner while surrounded by defenders, and Gamba got their breathing space that they play had so richly deserved. Yosuke Ideguchi added the icing on the cake in the 85th minute, cutting out a pass in midfield and slipping the ball out to the wing. The Gamba midfielder then followed up into the area to stab home the loose ball from close range after Patric had been denied. Final score 4-1, and the three previous undeserved negative results - from good performances - were forgotten in an instant.

With the win, Gamba moved back up to 6th place in J1, with a game in hand, even two on a couple of the teams above them, and a promising position to attack the top teams when they visit Kashiwa Reysol on Wednesday night.
