The game began well for the home team, with cool heads passing the ball around and moving into space, the way it's been done all season for Gamba. One such move created space for Takashi Usami in the 18th minute but the no.33 didn't connect well and the save was a comfortable one for Kim Seung-gyu in the away goal. Gamba's search for the perfect move with the perfect pass almost came back to haunt them just after the half hour mark and Yosuke Ideguchi was robbed in midfield and Cristiano advanced on goal only to blast over.
Gambe came close to opening the scoring after a super move down the right, multiple quick passes opening up space for a shot which was deflected out to Shu Kurata who deftly lobed the ball to Patric at the far post with the goal at his mercy. The lofted, spinning ball deceived the big Brazilian, though and, with an open goal to aim at he somehow completely missed the ball as it span away for a goal kick! Half time, 0-0.
Five minutes after the restart Kosuke Onose had Kim struggling with a 25-yard shot after exchanging passes with Patric, as Gamba looked more likely to score at any time. That goal soon came as, from the resulting corner, Patric was up to challenge the 'keeper for the ball, and Kim ended up dropping the ball into his own net to give Gamba the least that had been threatened throughout the game. Minutes later Kim redeemed himself with a save from Kurata, followed up with a denial of Onose and then Patric, all within seconds!
Ademilson made his appearance with less than 15 minutes to go and was soon ending yet another brilliant Gamba passing move with a shot across the goal (but the best was yet to come for him), but, suddenly, against the run of play and after a bout of head tennis the ball fell for Olunga in the goal area, and he needs only one invitation. The ball hit the back of the net and the away team were level.
As always, Gamba did not settle for a draw (they rarely even settle for a single-goal win, always looking for more) and a return to passing and movement saw them building moves and surging forward and it was Ademilson who saw his left foot rocket from the edge of the area bulge the net to give his team the three points! Even then, in additional time, Masaaki Higashiguchi made a fine save to ensure that Gamba took the well-deserved win! An all-round fine performance saw Gamba Osaka still on track for a top two finish!
