Neither team created too many real chances as the game became a midfield battle between two team who knew each other well but a little bit of magic from Patric created to opening for Yosuke Ideguchi to score the opening goal just after the half hour mark. Gamba passed the ball around just outside the area, looking to create space, and then Kosuke Onose sent in a deep cross to the far post where Patric unleashed his juggling skills, cheating, flicking and touching the ball five times before it touched the ground as he half-volleyed a pass into space for Ideguchi to finish!
Cerezo were back on level terms very quickly, though as a free kick came over and was deftly volleyed against the bar by Yasuki Kimoto, the ball bouncing on the line as Ideguchi collided with his own goalkeeper to allow Yuta Toyokawa a free header from a yard out, and suddenly it was 1-1.
Kim Jin-hyeon in the Cerezo goal was the hero just before half time, denying Takashi Usami from close range after Patric and Onose had split the defence with some slick passing. 1-1 at the break.
The 2nd half was end to end, with both teams looking for the win but failing at the last hurdle, with Usami coming close at one end and Hiroshi Kiyotake at the other but, in the end, spoils shared and Gamba Osaka remain on course for a 2nd-place finish.
