Gamba Osaka 1-1 Sagan Tosu

After losing badly, but with heads held high at Kawasaki Frontale in midweek, Gamba Osaka returned home to take on Sagan Tosu, and were held to a 1-1 draw with an unfortunate goal conceded and some desperate defensing and superb goalkeeping from their visitors. Once again Tsuneyasu Miyamoto gave his kids their chances, bringing on Dai Tsukamoto and Shoji Toyama when in search of the winning goal late in the game, and with 13 of the 18 squad members products of the Gamba Osaka youth system, it was a proud day once again to be a fan of the blue and black.

The day itself didn't go to plan, though and somehow the away team held on for a point after a scrambled goal was conceded in the 11th minute, with Ryu Takao sliding in to take the ball, but only succeeding in taking it away from Masaaki Higashiguchi and gifting an open goal to grateful 18-year-old debutante Ryunosuke Sagara.

Gamba then took the game to their visitors and went close to scoring on numerous occasions, with Patric being denied by goalkeeper Park Il-gyu on more than one chance before the big Brazilian deftly flicked home at the near post to equalise in the 77th minute. Before that Shunya Suganuma had headed against the bar from a corner and teenage striker Toyama had a couple of half chances that could have seen him the hero of the night!

The home team racked up twice as many attempts on goal as tehir opposition, and won 11 corners (to just two for Sagan Tosu) but that away defence held out and Gamba dropped two points in the race for 2nd place in J1.
