Endo, born in Kagoshima on January 28th, 1980 is 41 years old as the 2021 season begins and, in his almost 20 seasons at Gamba he played close to 600 games for the club, while also notching up over 150 games for the Japanese national team.
Endo joined Yokohama Flugels in 1998, making his debut in the opening game of the season in a Yokhama derby against Marinos. In 1999, after Flugels folded he moved to Kyoto Purple Sanga, and then on to Gamba in 2001. He was selected to the J.League Best XI every season from 2003 to 2012! His first championship came in 2005 under the management of Akira Nishino and, In 2014 he helped Gamba win all three major titles - the J1 Championship, the J.League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup and the Emperor's Cup. These club achievements were topped off by Endo being selected as the J.League MVP and "Japanese Footballer of the Year".
