Gamba Osaka 0-0 Shimizu S-Pulse

Gamba Osaka's woes in front of goal continued in a 0-0 home draw against Shimizu S-Pulse here, although the positive side of the coin would show another clean sheet for Masaaki Higashiguchi. The mounting injuries affecting the team, plus the enforced break due to Corona virus in the squad is taking a while to get over and we see the players not quite firing on all cylinders, perhaps. Yota Sato got his first start at centre back in what seemed like a three back line, but could also change to a 4-3-3 at a nod from the bench.
While the three-man attack failed to score again today they can not be accused of not trying and as early as the 4th minute Takashi Usami sent a right foot shot across the 'keeper and just wide to set alarm bells ringing in the away defence. It was Usami again, on 20 minutes - who latched onto a Tiago Alves pass after the Brazilian had intercepted a pass in the defence - this time the unlucky forward hit the crossbar.
The woodwork came to their rescue of S-Pulse again five minutes before half time, as Patric's good work found space for Yosuke Ideguchi who cracked one off from over 25 yards out, only to see it come back off the post! Somehow the game remained goalless going into the break.
The 2nd half ran out in a similar mode, with S-Pulse seeing their shots go wayward and Higashiguchi completely untroubled throughout the match in goal for Gamba, but, thanks to a last-ditch 95th minute goal-line clearance by a desperate defence the game ended 0-0. Another clean sheet, another point, but another game without a goal for Gamba.
