It was Kim who helped create the opening goal in the 27th minute, surging forward from midfield before passing to Shinya Yajima, who slipped it on to Shu Kurata. He in turn sent it wide to Kosuke Onose on the right and his low cross was turned home by Patric to give Gamba a well deserved lead.
10 minutes later Yajima was involved again as he robbed his opposition player in the centre circle and set up Takashi Usami to move forward and send a right-footed shot just wide, and so it remained 1-0 at the break.
Into the 2nd half, and Tokushima Vortis began to see more of the ball but the defence and goalkeeper Masaaki Higashiguchi were equal to anything thrown at them. And then came the only thing that would be able to beat the Gamba 'keeper today - a PK, as Taisei Miyashiro was brought down and the referee pointed to the spot. Ken Iwao sent Higashiguchi the wrong way and suddenly the game was level. But it didn't stay that way for too long as Usami gave his team the 2-1 win with a bouncing volley through defenders after the ball was half^cleared by the 'keeper. There were doubts about the goal being given - even from Usami himself - after Patric was considered for offside by VAR, but the goal stood, the win came and the points were welcome!
