Gamba Osaka 2-0 Yokohama FC

next
Gamba Osaka continued their season revival with a game against Yokohama FC and a fine 2-0 home win, to add three more points and some breathing space at the bottom of J1. Of course, with games in hand to play, and injured players returning, things will get better, but, nevertheless, it was a huge relief to get three more points on the board here.
KIm Young-gwon was fully fit and able to start in a three-back formation and, with Kim missing next game due to national team duty for Korea, Genta Miura was rested and on the bench, with Shunya Suganuma coming in to deputise. Ryu Takao also made his first start in top long as Gamba's injury worries continued to lessen, slowly. Just behind Leandro Pereira up front, Wellington Siva also got his first start for the team.
Early exchanges saw a lot of the ball in midfield as both teams failed to do anything incisive and played cagey football, but the Gamba attack burst into life just after the half-hour mark when Ju Se-jong finished off a fine multi-player love down the left with a shot that went just wide. Shortly after that Wellington Silva flicked on an in-swinging free kick from the left only to see the ball slip just wide of the post as Gamba turned the screw on their visitors.

Five minutes before the break, Leandro Periera's moment finally arrived as he stepped up to convert a penalty kick won by Dai Tsukamoto, and the Brazilian made no mistake in grabbing his first goal of the season to give his team a 1-0 half time lead. 10 minutes after the break Gamba were 2-0 ahead, and Leandro Pereira had doubled his tally for the night, and for the season, running on to a superb through ball from Shinya Yajima and side-footing past the helpless 'keeper.
Gamba controlled the game at their pace but the away team had a chance with just over 10 minutes to go, but Masaaki Higashiguchi turned the curling shot onto the post and out, as Yokohama FC were frustrated by the experienced Gamba no.1, and the game moved towards the finish, leaving the home side 2-0 victors.

Team - Higashiguchi, Suganuma, Shoji, KIm, Takao (Onose, 78), Tsukamoto, Okuno, Ju, Yajima (Kurata, 63), Wellington Silva (Ichimi, 73), Leandro Pereira (Usami, 73)
