Captain Genta Miura led his team well to an efficient and well-deserved victory in Hokkaido, although, in the early stages of the game Masaaki Higashiguchi in goal was a busy man, denying both Jay Bothroyd and Takuma Arano from headers. As the half progressed, Gamba took over and started to play some flowing football and looked likely to score at any moment. Wellington Silva went on a mazy run in the 23rd minute that could have ended in the first goal of the game but for a fine save from Takanori in the home goal. Wellington Silva did manage to make his mark minutes later with a nice turn to beat his defender and then a low cross to serve Shinya Yajima a goal on a plate in his 100th J1 appearance! 1-0 is how it stayed until the break and then Gamba came out swinging and looking for further goals for the 2nd half.
That second goal soon came as Leandro Pereira got on the end of a cross, and his bullet header was too hot for Sugeno to handle, although he got a hand to it, the ball fell again to the quick-thinking Brazilian, who adjusted his body and volleyed home to make it 2-0, and three points to Gamba! Higashiguchi was forced to make one more save before the final whistle, but the job had been done and the Gamba train continued to troll down the tracks!
