Gamba Osaka 0-1 Shonan Bellmare

Shonan Bellmare, managed by former Gamba Osaka centre back and coach Satoshi Yamaguchi, came to Panasonic Stadium and performed a smash n' grab act to see them, somehow, leave with all three points on their manager's birthday!

Gamba's three-back system allowed the wide players some freedom to attack and the chances came early, with a Yuya Fukuda shot blocked and Dawhan's follow-up attempt saved, as Gamba took the game to their visitors. Dawhan saw another effort spurt past the post after fine play from Yuki Yamamoto found him space on the edge of the area but a goal kick was all that came of that move.

As the half progressed Shuto Machino and Tarik saw shots saved comfortably by Jun Ichimori in the Gamba goal, as the home team controlled the game but could not make the breakthrough. Hiroto Yamami was next with a chance after Patric headed down into his path, but the first-time left shot as easy for the away 'keeper and the game remained scoreless at the break.

The 2nd half was a different game as Bellmare took control of possession and racked up the shots, though none that troubled the 'keeper enough to warrant any concern for the home team as they soaked up any pressure and came out with the ball each time. And then, as the clock ticked to 90 minutes a teasing right-wing cross from Hirokazu Ishihara was met by Shuto Yamamoto's head, and the ball was in the net. Late drama, heartbreak for Gamba, and a winnable game was lost at the death.
