Cerezo Osaka 3-1 Gamba Osaka

Gamba began this Osaka Derby against neighbours Cerezo with a three back system, and missing Patric up front, Leandro Pereira and Hiroto Yamami were the front-runners. It was Yamami who came close to opening the scoring midway through the 1st half with a glancing header just past the post with the goalkeeper looking on helplessly. The diminutive forward was more decisive with with his next headed chance, in the 33rd minute, though, as the front two combined to strip the ball from the defence and then Leandro Pereira crossed to the far post for Yamami to head home to 1-0 goal. It took a while, and then a VAR review to confirm what most of the stadium knew already - the ball had indeed crossed the line!

Coming out of the half time break a goal to the good Gamba allowed their rivals to draw level in the most unfortunate manner as Genta Miura managed to clear the ball from Hiroaki Okuno's feet as he was about to shoot, but with the goalkeeper committed and Miura on the floor, the ball rolled clear to Adam Taggart, who smashed the ball into an open goal, 1-1! Okuno did get his goal in the 66th minute just after Gamba had the chance to go ahead from Ko Yanagisawa, arriving at the far post but not connecting with the ball after a move down the left had opened up the pink defence. Another counter attack saw Okuno rise between defenders and head low into the corner to give Cerezo the lead.

With minutes to go Gamba threw everyone forward looking for the leveling goal and were caught out on yet another counter-attack as Okuno grabbed his second, his close-range blast somehow finding its way through the 'keeper's body at the near post to give the home team a 3-1 Osaka Derby win.
