Sagan Tosu 2-1 Gamba Osaka

Away at Sagan Tosu, Gamba were forced into using Taichi Kato in goal as a hand injury to Jun Ichimori forced him out. Ichimori, of course has been filling in for the longer-term injured Masaaki Higashiguchi. Kato found a surprise appearance in J1 came his way.

The home team opened the scoring on a break down the right wing after Kwon Kyung-won was muscled - suspiciously, but no foul given - off the ball in midfield and the space was left for the cross, and the finish. Gamba went looking for the goal that would draw them level and Hiroto Yamami saw a shot saved, then Kosuke Onose's effort was blocked before Keisuke Kurokawa curled the ball just past the past as Sagan Tosu held on to their lead into the half time break.

The 2nd half began as the first one had ended, as Gamba pressed for their equaliser, with Yamami crossing low for Patric to volley into the side of the net in the opening exchange of the second period, and then Mitsuki Saito blasting just over from close range. The Gamba goal did come soon after, though, as a Ko Yanagisawa deep cross was met by Yamami's head, giving the 'keeper no chance and bring the away team deservedly level.

Gamba looked good for their goal and went looking for the winner, as is their wont, but, the day belonged to Hwang Seok-ho, who headed home a late free kick to give the home team an unlikely win.
