Gamba Osaka 1-2 Cerezo Osaka

Gamba Osaka welcomed their local rivals to the Osaka Derby and were soon on the front foot, taking control of the game in front of their own fans. Takashi Usami shook the post in the 24th minute from a direct free kick, while Kosei Tani in the home goal was almost a spectator in the opening stages of the game, but then Cerezo took the lead against the run of play, Leo Ceara heading home a right wing cross to make it 1-0 to the away team in the 28th minute. That was the extent of the scoring in the 1st half and it was 0-1 at the break.

Gamba were soon level after the restart, though, with good work from Usami again finding space, and, as he pulled back a low cross from the goal line, Issam Jebali allowed the ball to run though his legs, taking out the defenders along with it, and Dawhan came in and placed the ball in at the post to bring the game level. Gamba then racked up the pressure, looking for the win and the Cerezo goal was under siege. At one point, in the 77th minute, desperate defenders had to block multiple attempts on goal from Juan Alano and Jebali, before Neta Lavi saw his final shot drift deflected wide.

Gamba continued to look the more likely winners, so it was only a matter of time - considering the luck of the men in blue and black this season so far - that they would concede and, sure enough, for the second time in the match they scored from a counter-attack, a cross and a header, this time from Mustuki Kato.

Even deep into added time Jebali looked as if he would salvage a deserved point, but his point-blank shot was straight at the fortunate 'keeper, and deflected for a corner. But the result remained a 2-1 defeat and yet again, Gamba were regretting their lack of finishing and more bad luck.
