Hwang made it a personal brace and a two-goal lead for Gamba before the half hour was up when he slotted home a pulled back ball from Shu Kurata, who had done well to find space on the left. The Korean striker was looking for his hat trick in the 35th minute as his left foot shot forced a save from the home 'keeper, as Gamba made light work of the Shimizu defence yet again, but it remained just 2-0 at the break.
As the clock hit the hour mark Koya Kitagawa had the ball in the net for the home team but was correctly called offside but this seemed to spark S-Pulse into life a little and they gradually grew more into the game and, with 15 minutes to go Kitagawa took his chance and pulled his team back to within a goal of Gamba. The away defence were marshaled well, and kept the orange and black wave from breaching too close to the goal but, even then two shots from outside the area his Masaaki Higashiguchi's woodwork before the whistle finally gave Gamba maximum points and a third win-in-a-row.
Exciting at time, unbeatable in possession at other times, but, in the end, it was the goalposts that helped Gamba hold on for the win! A very welcome win indeed!
