Gamba Osaka 0-0 F.C. Tokyo

Almost 34,000 fans came out to see Gamba Osaka take on high-flying FC Tokyo and, while before the game a 0-0 draw would have been grabbed with both hands, after the game some may feel disappointed that the home team did not take all three points. The first chance of the game fell to Ademilson after fine work from the plucky Brazilian saw him lose the ball, fight to win it back, then play a one-two on the edge of the area before trying to slip it past FC Tokyo 'keeper Akihiro Hayashi. The custodian made a fine one-handed save down low to keep his team level.

Hayashi was in action again on the 15th-minute mark as he reached high and right to palm over a Yasuhito Endo free kick as Gamba looked for the opening goal but the away team held on and it was scoreless at the break.

The away 'keeper was well on his way to earning Man-of-the Match status when he dived left to scoop away a Hwang Ui-jo free kick seven minutes after half time as Gamba looked far better than their lowly position would have suggested. Yasuyuki Konno was next in line to take a chance at beating the former national team stopper but his shot from the edge of the area went over.

At the other end of the field Masaaki Higashiguchi had a quiet time as Gamba looked for goals and was only troubled by a weak shot from 17-year-old wonderkid Takefusa Kubo around the hour mark and then an attempt down low at his right hand post which he saved with aplomb.

With current results and the positions of these two teams Gamba would probably have been happy with a point, but they really could have won this one. Encouraging play all over the field, and no need for panic yet - the football is good, the points will come!

Team - Higashiguchi, Yonekura, Suganuma, Kim, Oh, Endo, Ko (Konno, 46), Onose, Kurata, Ademilson, Hwang
