Gamba Osaka 3-1 Shimizu S-Pulse - Levain Cup

next
Gamba Osaka manager Tsuneyasu Miyamoto was really taking the Levain Cup "Young Heroes" ideal to heart, starting Ryu Takao, Keisuke Kurokawa, Takahiro Ko and Ryotaro Meshino in this game, as well as rotating the squad almost completely, giving Ken Tajiri a game in goal, also.

In a game that proved an easy win, Ademilson had caused problems for the away defence and Tatsuya Tanaka had made a fine run from his own half to test the 'keeper before centre back Genta Miura opened the scoring against his former team with a near post header from an inswinging corner. 1-0 at the break!

Gamba continued to patiently pass the ball round and control the game but were pegged back against the run of play when Douglas curled in a left-footed free kick to level the game. But Gamba were soon back in control with two substitutions stamping their mark on the game as both Hwang Ui-jo and Keito Nakamura scored after coming on as replacements!

Hwang gave Gamba the lead after taking a pass down the right channel, shrugging off one defender as he cut inside and then rounding the goalkeeper to shoot home with his left foot through the legs of a defender on the line. Hwang then turned provider with a deft flick to Nakamura on the left wing. The teenager raced forward, cutting inside and leaving his defender for dead before blasting past the helpless 'keeper to give Gamba the 3-1 win!
