Nagoya Grampus 2-2 Gamba Osaka

next
Gamba went into this away game against a faltering Nagoya Grampus looking for three points that would take them into the top 10, but had to settle for a well-deserved draw in the end, with returning Gamba hero Takashi Usami heading in an additional time equaliser after Ademilson had already leveled once in the 8th minute.

Usami started the game in a very attacking Gamba line-up, also featuring Ademilson and Keito Nakamura - saying sayonara to the Gamba fans before his move to Holland. Throughout the game Gamba went forward with intent and, even when the changes came, they were very positive, with Ryotaro Meshino replacing Yasuhito Endo in the 68th minute and the fresh leg of Kazuma Watanabe replacing Ademilson for the last 10 minutes or so.

Gamba were surprised in the 4th minute by some pressing from the home team and gave the ball away deep in their own half and paid the price. Our heroes were soon on level terms, though, when a long ball from to visionary that is Endo found Ademilson running free at the goalkeeper. Mitch Langerak in the Grampus goal managed to get a hand to the ball and divert it but then the plucky Brazilian chased it, and Langerak went with him. The skills of Ademilson beat the 'keeper and blasted the ball past the defenders who were lined up to protect the goal. 1-1 on eight minutes.

On the 22nd-minute mark Usami and Ademilson combined to send the Japanese striker on a run and his low shot was half-saved by Langerak, but the ball bounced off the 'keeper's hands and over the goal for a corner, with the home defence visibly relieved.

The home team took the lead for the second time in the match just before the break as an inswinging cross beat the defence and Grampus forward Jo and reached Kazuya Miyahara who somehow got a foot to it and the ball sneaked in off Masaaki Higashiguchi's glove and the post. The Assistant Referee was flagging for offside but the referee adjudged that Jo had not touched the ball so the goal stood.

Yuya Fukuda found himself in the area in the 72nd minute but his shot on the turn was weak and easily gathered by the relieved 'keeper, then Meshino and Usami combined to give space to the youngster but his shot was blocked as Gamba looked for the 2-2 goal. That goal finally came from the unlikely source of Usami's head as he powered home a far post header from Kosuke Onose's cross to salvage a point for the away team.
