[Preview] Gamba Osaka aims for a win in every match against Bangkok United. They will fight alongside their supporters in their final home game of the tournament.
The match against Kyoto, the first of 11 consecutive games, proved that Gamba is on the right track. They overwhelmed Kyoto, who rely on high intensity and quick transitions, and secured a 2-0 clean sheet victory. It was the first clean sheet under Vising's management, and Nakatani also showed confidence in the second half, which had been a weakness, saying, "We've become able to defend with more confidence."
Just three days after their match against Kyoto, Gamba will face Bangkok United FC, a Thai powerhouse, in the 1st Leg of the ACL2 semi-final. Regardless of the stage or opponent, Gamba will stick to the attacking style they have built up with Head Coach Vissing this season.
"I think it's about how we can embody our style of football, like we did in the Kyoto match, and how we can put it into practice on the pitch. We want to show our best way of doing things," said Head Coach Vising.
"They play in an organized manner, and their transitions after winning the ball are quick; they play good, orthodox football," said Shikino, showing respect for the MESHINO, but Miura asserted that the key to victory would ultimately come down to "how well we can play our own style of football."
All 11 players on the pitch are conscious of creating a vertical vector, and Gamba Osaka is dominating both offensively and defensively right now. "We have to steadily build up what we need to do," says Hummett, who has scored in three consecutive league matches.
In whatever form it takes, if they take the initiative, the pressure from the home supporters will naturally accelerate Gamba's momentum.
Bangkok United, on the other hand, has reached the semi-finals of ACL2 for the first time, and is currently third in the Thai League, ahead of Ratchaburi, so their strength should not be underestimated. They won their quarter-final match against Singapore's Tampines Rovers 4-3 on aggregate, but scored two goals in all four of their knockout stage matches. Their defense is centered around Thai national team GK Patiwat Khammai and includes many of the main players from the Thai national team, but their forward line includes Montenegrin international Neboixa Kosović and TEERASIL DANGDA, who has played for Hiroshima and Shimizu, so they are definitely a team to watch out for. In addition, Rivaldinho, the son of former Brazilian international Rivaldo, who was acquired for the knockout stage, is another player to be wary of as a finisher.
Furthermore, Brazilian player Everton, who is also a key player in their defense, has the ability to score from set pieces, so Gamba needs to be wary of how they start the match and be careful of careless set pieces.
Abe also said, "Set pieces are scary, and the Head Coach has told me not to give away unnecessary fouls, so I want to be thorough about that."
First, they want to gain an advantage with a victory heading into the 2nd Leg away from home, but the ACL2 final in this tournament is a single-elimination match held at the home ground of a team from the West region.
At Suita City Football Stadium, in what will be the final match of the tournament, only Hummett can "use their home advantage and win."
We're just three wins away from the top. First, we want to show Bangkok United what Gamba can do.
