[Preview] It's time to turn the confidence gained from the Hiroshima match into three points. Against Nagasaki, victory is the only goal.
The match against Hiroshima, which came 2nd year of junior high school days after the 2nd Leg of the EMPEROR'S CUP , was a game in which Gamba Osaka showed the direction they should aim for going forward against a tough opponent they had lost to twice in the J.LEAGUE 100 YEAR VISION LEAGUE. Despite the suspension of key midfielder Abe, the double pivot of Kurata and Suzuki moved the ball with good tempo, and JEBALI delivered a spectacular performance. Although the match ended in a single point, thanks to the manager's minor tactical adjustments, Head Coach Myojin said he felt it was a game in which they were able to show to some extent what kind of football they want to play.
For Gamba Osaka, their away match against Nagasaki will be a game where they aim for nothing less than three points, along with further improvement in their performance.
Head Coach Myojin and the players are well aware that there are no easy matches in the J.League. "The season has just begun, but we must secure points in these two matches," Nakatani said, describing the significance of the back-to-back away games against 18th-placed Nagasaki and 20th-placed Chiba.
The key lies in the defensive stability they demonstrated against Hiroshima. While Myojin Gamba's style involves fast, vertical attacks and moving the ball around, the key takeaway from last match, where they kept their first clean sheet of the season in the league, was their ability to maintain compactness. "In terms of defense, we want to use last match as the minimum baseline for our overall organization. To achieve that, compactness is a prerequisite, and we also need to increase the intensity of our defense from the front line," (Head Coach Myojin).
Nagasaki, currently on a three-game losing streak, will likely come on aggressively from the start at home, but conceding the first goal is unacceptable. As Nakatani said, "It's important to finish the first half with a clean sheet and return to the locker room," so falling behind is definitely not an option.
On the other hand, securing the win will require repeatedly shaking Nagasaki's goal net, and JEBALI , who returned to the lineup last match, will accelerate Gamba's attack. Head Coach Myojin has confidence in Dzebari, saying, "In the J.LEAGUE 100 YEAR VISION LEAGUE and this season as well, JEBALI 's ball-holding ability is one of our weapons, so we want to use it." It is true that the more vertical passes are made to JEBALI, the higher the expectation of a goal. Nagasaki will undoubtedly be wary of the connection between JEBALI and Hummett, but "we want to create chances from other patterns as well. It will also be important for the second line to push forward," says Abe, who is also returning to the lineup, and he intends to shine on both offense and defense while making the most of JEBALI's ball-holding ability.
Nagasaki has conceded goals in all four of their matches this season, and seven of them in their last two games. While they have Egawa, who played for Gamba, in their backline, they have several attackers to watch out for up front. Thiago Santos Santana(THIAGO SANTANA)'s hold-up play, which is the starting point of attacks up front, is something to be wary of, but "Hasegawa will be the key player. Nakatani is wary of Hasegawa and Iwasaki, the two shadows who can hold the ball and defend aggressively, so containing them is also something to be concerned about. Also, it will be essential to prevent Matheus Sousa De Jesus(MATHEUS JESUS), the former Gamba player who returned in the last match, from taking shots.
"We need to retain the feeling that we did well in the last match, and we want to remember the feeling that we clicked," (Nakaya). The match against Nagasaki will be a must-win situation where securing three points is the only objective.
