Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "I'm honestly filled with sadness and regret. However, I personally believe that today's game was not worth losing. Apart from the moment of defense at one corner in the first half, where we were scored on by a mistake, we were able to control the game and create scoring opportunities. In the second half, the players proved it with their great start and attitude. We were also sent off, and we were in good shape, but Yokohama F・Marinos' second goal was a really great goal, a golazo (super goal), and there are no words to describe it. I think it was a great goal. The second goal was quite damaging for the players, but they gave it their all until the very end and continued to play without giving up. I think the players expressed GAMBA OSAKA's play firmly against such a great team as Marinos. I myself am filled with regret. However, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all the supporters. After the game, the players were given warm words and the words "we will continue to support you" to the greatest extent possible. Hearing such words, I think I myself will continue to have sleepless nights, but for their sake, I want to desperately look forward and move forward together with the players. We really were so close to victory, but something happened at the last moment and it just slipped out of our hands.
Q: "You made some changes to the starting line-up and I think you played with more intensity than in previous games, but what do you think was the reason you weren't able to score any goals?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I mentioned this in an interview the day before, but I think that what I can do as a Head Coach is to instill in the team how to create goal-scoring opportunities. We have been working on how to organize the team and how to create decisive chances as a team by getting behind the opponents. However, I think we are still lacking in terms of finishing off the final chances. I think the players have done a good job of creating goal-scoring opportunities. Now I think that the only thing left to do is to finish off the chances."
Q: "We've been trying a lot of things but haven't been getting results in a lot of games, so what can Head Coach Poyatos do from here on out?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "We haven't been getting results so we switched players around today, and we're currently proposing various solutions, such as bringing the wing players inside to create a numerical advantage in the midfield. So we'd like to continue doing things like that in the future."
Q: "In today's game, rather than focusing on possession compared to previous games, it seemed like you were quickly passing the ball vertically after winning the ball. Was that part of your plan for this game?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I personally think that this is a change that I've been trying for a while now. I've been working with the players on getting behind the defense and on getting behind the defense when we can attack vertically quickly. I've been working on that, and I think we just didn't have enough power to make the decisions. However, I personally think that there were some really puzzling decisions. I say this with all my respect, but there is one thing I would like to ask of the refereeing team. I really want them to have a firm standard. I want them to have a firm standard. I don't understand at all the standards for Shota FUKUOKA's penalty in the last match against Urawa and our penalty in today's match against Marinos, which was a handball. I want them to have a firm standard for why we were awarded a penalty in Urawa, and why it wasn't awarded a penalty today, even though it was a handball in the same situation. I really didn't understand that. So I personally want the J.League and the referees to explain things clearly, and of course I am fully aware of the daily efforts that everyone there puts in and the various pressures that they are under. However, I also want them to understand that our daily efforts can fall apart and go to waste in that way. I may be wrong in this regard, but I really want to ask them. I would like to ask the J.League and the referees at the same time to set clear standards at the referee level. I would like them to clearly prove this. "
