Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "I'm really very disappointed. When it was 11-on-11, we were outnumbering our opponents and were firmly in control, and we were in a good flow and creating good chances. I think the flow of the game changed after the sending off. The opponent pushed us physically, and we struggled with that. Also, Egawa didn't have the sense for the game yet, so I think that's what we struggled with. But in the second half, we conceded the winning goal, but even after that, the players showed a good reaction and kept moving forward. I think that feeling was conveyed to the fans, and I myself am really calm now. If we continue to show the same attitude we are showing now, the attitude we are showing on the pitch, in the next game against Marinos, I think we will definitely move forward, and I think the team is really in a good position right now."
Q: As Head Coach Poyatos said, the sending off changed the tide, but what was your intention in substituting Yamashita there?
Head Coach Poyatos: "Yes, I thought that substituting Yamashita might take away from our sense of speed, but I wanted (Usami) Takashi to come in and help us out in the midfield, and I wanted us to have control of the ball in the midfield. That's how we ended up scoring at the end of the first half, but in the second half, we also wanted to bring the wingers in and have control of the ball in the midfield."
Q: "Another point is that you seemed to be a little on the defensive from the start of the second half, but was there any instruction at halftime to extend the one-on-one time period as much as possible and to finish off the opponent somewhere?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I told the players a lot of things, but mainly I told them to be disciplined in defense. When (Usami) Takashi put too much pressure forward, the opposing side backs came up, so I adjusted that, and on the offensive side, I wanted to bring the wing players in and control the midfield. That's what I told the players at halftime."
Q: "As Head Coach Poyatos said in yesterday's interview, "It will be a difficult match for the referee," but the game unfolded a little rough, and I think it got heated up. Was that a situation where he fell into Machida's trap, or was the ejection a personal problem for Handa?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "Well, I don't want to comment on the referee, but I understand that the call was difficult for them, but in my own opinion, I think that the first yellow card from Riku HANDA was a harsh call because he challenged the ball properly. But I respect the referee in that regard. However, in today's match, Machida is a running and fighting team in the J.League, and I think they were much tougher, but we received more yellow cards than them, so I wish they had looked a little more closely. But we want to continue to get up, face forward, and move forward."
Q: I have two questions. First, I would like to know the intention and evaluation of using JEBALI as a starter and using Usami in a lower position than usual. Also, please tell me the reason why Egawa was chosen as the center back from Fukuoka.
Head Coach Poyatos: "Well, first of all, regarding the second question, Fukuoka was unwell today, with a fever and nausea, so unfortunately we couldn't use him. I hope he will play well tomorrow. As for JEBALI, I mentioned this at the last press conference, but considering that we were facing Machida, I wanted to attack the opposing defensive midfielder who was running. I wanted JEBALI to receive the ball with a strong presence in the center, and I wanted a player who could hold the ball firmly, so I used him. I personally believe that the team was functioning well in that respect."
