Gamba Osaka 5-0 Hokkaido Consadole

next
After last weekend's total dominance of the Osaka Derby, but with a 3-1 defeat to show for it, Gamba's season finally tuned around and all those positive statistics, possession, passing and movement hit pay dirt at last. The figures have been good for Gamba all season, except in the goal-scoring / conceding department, so it was just reward for the tactics of manager Tsuneyasu Miyamoto to finally get a big win and actually score goals from dominating a game. Keeping a clean sheet was another bonus!

The starting XI was changed from the previous week, with Kosuke Onose returning after suspension, and Ademilson coming in for Kazuma Watanabe, with Yuya Fukuda and Shinya Yajima also given starts.

Gamba started well with Ademilson latching on to a superb through pass from Ryu Takao to lob the 'keeper but hit the woodwork, and then the diminutive Brazilian earned - and missed a penalty kick! He then proceeded to get in another good position and have the goal at his mercy and shot across the area. It seemed as if the familiar pattern of Gamba dominating a game but not scoring the goals from chances created was about to continue! And it did continue until at least half time, with the scores level at 0-0 at the break.

In the 48th minute there were signs of what was to come as Takashi Usami exchanged passes with Takao in the advance central field and his long range shot was too hot for the 'keeper to handle, but the save bounced safely away for a corner. But the tide was about to finally come in for Gamba and another superb passing move found Ademilson on the right side of the area in the 57th minute and his incredibly-accurate weighted pass saw Shu Kurata able to run in and blast home with his left foot to open the floodgates.

Minutes later another free-flowing passing move between Kurata, Ademilson and Usami opened up space for the latter to blast home with his right foot and double Gamba's lead.

Gamba continued to patiently pass the ball and move around the field giving options and the third goal soon came, and was just reward for Ademilson who had created the first two goals, as he headed home a right wing cross from Onose. After his first 10 minutes had seen such bad luck he was finally on the scoresheet. 20 minutes to go and Gamba were cruising, but they still wanted more.

Substitutions were made - Hiroki Fujiharu and Watanabe made late appearances, and both changes paid dividends as they both got on the scoresheet as Gamba's systems finally got the just reward they deserved. Fujiharu struck first of the two subs, after he had started a move on the left wing, and fed Patric who then slipped the ball to Kurata, who pulled the ball back to Fujiharu, continuing his run into the box. The wing back converted at the second attempt, after his first shot was blocked.

Watanabe was next to make his mark as he was given space 25 yards out by the tiring and deflated defence, and he picked his spot to send a low right foot shot into the 'keeper's left hand post. Five goals, a clean sheet, something that had been coming for a long time.
