end, on goals from debutant Ui Jo Hwang, Genta Miura and Ademilson.
While there had been rumours of Shu Kurata (back pain) and Genta Miura
being not fully fit, the boys in blue and black took care of their
pink neighbours and pegged them back at the top of J1.
In front of a crowd of over 36,000 predominantly blue fans the
majority of the stadium went home happy, eventually, after a
come-from-behind three goal blitz from their heroes in the 2nd half.
Hwang had a golden chance to open the scoring in his first game for
Gamba in the 13th minute but somehow scooped a bouncing ball over the
bar from three yards out, as Gamba looked to take control of the
match. Masaaki Higashiguchi was called into action six minutes later
but Hotaru Yamaguchi's shot didn't cause too many problems for the
Japan national team custodian. The team parried each other's attacks
and it was 0-0 at the break.
First out of the blocks in the 2nd half was Yosuke Idegichi with a
snapshot from 2- yards out that Jin Hyeon Kim had to save in his top
right corner but just as Gamba seemed to be getting on top of their
rivals a long ball from the away 'keeper was headed on into the path
of Kenyu Sugimoto. Hiroki Fujiharu appeared to have it well covered
but a wicked bounce off his foot saw him lose control and the Cerezo
forward made the best of his good fortune, 1-0!
Gamba were not behind for long, with Fujiharu making up for his bad
luck in the Cerezo goal with a superb near post cross that Hwang
gratefully gobbled up with a superb header for a debut goal! 1-1.
Gamba were ahead in the 77th minute when Miura met a wicked inswinging
Ideguchi corner with a header across the 'keeper and in at the far
The killer goal came in the 86th minute when Higashiguchi punched
clear a cross and Ademilson pounced on the ball not far outside his
own area and ran for goal. The diminutive Brazilian raced over the
half way line with defenders in pursuit and just Matej Joncic to beat.
The defender backed off before finally falling as Ademilson feinted
one way and went the other. What followed was almost comical as,
firstly, Kim stopped Ademilson's first attempt with his foot, then got
in the way of Ideguchi's follow-up. The second (or should that be
third?!) ball was headed back into the fray by Shun Nagasawa for
Ademilson to control with his thigh and volley home to seal the win.
