Rafael Silva gave Reds a 50th lead in this see-saw match, after Masaaki Higashiguchi had foiled the first attempt, but the ball fell kindly to the Brazilian striker who slotted home into the empty net. Gamba were level within minutes, though, as a Ryo Hatsuse free kick was floated over and Yasuhito Endo - usually taking free kicks, not on the end of them - lobbed the ball back across goal to the unmarked Hwang to head home from close range. 1-1.
Gamba were almost ahead within a couple of minutes, after a break started by Higashiguchi's throw. Akasaki's cross was met by Yosuke Ideguchi but the goalkeeper closed down the shot.
It was the home team that took the lead again, in the 64th minute, when Rafael Silva scored his second of the game, curling home into the top corner from the corner of the area. 2-1! But, again, the away team were level within minutes, with the goal of the game from Akasaki. Hwang pulled three defenders towards him before slipping the ball to Shu Kurata who found space for a cross, and Akasaki volleyed home with grace from about 12 yards out. Superbly taken, 2-2!
Shinzo Koroki then gave his team the lead for the third time in the game in the 73rd minute, after Hwang was tackled by Mauricio in the opposing area. While the Korean striker was still looking for a penalty kick the ball was sent upfield and the final pass from Yosuke Kashiwagi to Koroki was slipped home with aplomb by the ace striker. 3-2.
Gamba came back once again in additional time when Hirota Goya, on as a substitute, headed home Ideguchi's inswinging cross. 3-3. That's all she wrote.
