Gamba Osaka 1-0 Vegalta Sendai

Gamba were led to their second win in succession by another goal from Shu Kurata as the blue and black faithful saw Gamba add another win to their season and ease some of the pressure on manager Levir Culpi. For this match Gamba were unchanged for the first time this season, keeping Koki Yonekura on the right side of midfield after he made such a good impact in the 3-0 defeat of Sagan Tosu in the previous match.

Gamba played the game at their own pace and had plenty of possession, and the first real chance came in the 20th minute, with Genta Miura heading on an inswinging Jungo Fujimoto free kick, but it was straight at the fortunate 'keeper who palmed it away from in front of his face!

Eight minutes before the break a slick move down the right saw Yonekura with space in the box and his back-heel flick was into the path of Hwang Ui-jo who saw his low shot saved. It was 0-0 at the break and Yasuyuki Konno made a welcome appearance for the 2nd half, replacing Oh Jae-suk, with Yonekura dropping to right back, Konno slotting in at central midfield, and Yasuhito Endo moving forward a little to support the attack more.

It was Konno himself who supplied the inch-perfect ball into the path of Kurata to score in the 62nd minute, after some nice interplay between Endo and Fujimoto to create space. 10 minutes later Yonekura was up in the box again and headed a corner inches over the bar as Gamba looked for more goals and a second almost did come from the left foot of Matheus in added time - just as it had done in the last match - but the Brazilian's low left foot blast was turned around the post and the score remained 1-0 at the final whistle for Gamba to have two wins in-a-row for the first time this season.
