Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo 2-0 Gamba Osaka

After two wins in-a-row Gamba traveled to Sapporo feeling confident and in a better J1 position than they had seen in quite a while, but their hopes were dashed by a 2-0 defeat to a Consadole team that are looking very useful under manager Mihail Petrovic.

Gamba 'keeper Mizuki Hayashi was called into action early on but was equal to anything thrown at him until the 39th minute when a cross came in and only half-cleared by the Gamba defence. Fabio allowed the ball to bounce and just watched as Kazuki Fukai was given a free swing at the ball from close range. Poor Hayashi had no chance. Hwang Ui-jo had a chance to level things up in added time of the 1st half but didn't connect sweetly and it was an easy save for the goalkeeper, although he had to grab the ball at the second attempt as it bounced off the post and back into his arms. 1-0 down at the break but looking good for at least a draw!

Shu Kurata came close to scoring in his third match in-a-row eight minutes after the restart but the 'keeper's left foot did enough, and then minutes later Kurata had the home goalkeeper earning his pay again as Gamba looked close to an equaliser, but it was Consadole who added to their lead with a fortunate goal in the end. Ken Tokura mis-kicked an overhead attempt which crept in after the ball had been returned across the goal after an initial save by Hayashi. The Gamba 'keeper then denied Tokura on a much better chance before the end but it was the home team that held out for the 2-0 win.
