Gamba Osaka 1-0 Sagan Tosu

20,000-plus Gamba Osaka fans - and a few visitors - gathered to see their heroes take all three points and stay clear of the bottom three in J1, with what could have been labeled as a relegation six-pointer against Sagan Tosu. The match-winner was Kazuma Watanabe, a late substitute, and the game was also notable for the cameo substitute appearance of Gamba's new Spanish signing- Markel Susaeta.

Gamba kicked off from left to right, facing the way fans and goalkeeper Masaaki Higasghiguchi was forced to make save before 20 seconds was up! But make that save he did. Shu Kurata had the away 'keeper palming the ball away from his edge-of-the-box shot after good work from Takashi Usami on the right, as both teams went looking for goals and creating half-chances but nothing that troubled either custodian too much. Half time 0-0, all to play for.

Tosu's Takeshi Kamamori came closest to breaking the deadlock just after the hour mark when he cut in from the right and shaped to shoot with his left. Kim Young-gwon slid in the deflect the ball on to the bar, although Higashiguchi was well-placed to make the save.

Watanabe entered the fray in the 72nd minute, closely followed by debutant Susaeta. Ademilson had replaced Kosuke Onose in the 66th minute, and these substitutions were to swing the game in Gamba's favour as Ademilson took a pass from Yosuke Ideguchi on the left wing and swung in a pinpoint left foot cross that arrowed towards the head of Watanabe, who found the back of the net with his header! Better late than never and a well-deserved victory in the end for Tsuneyasu Miyamoto's team as they head on up the table!
