Gamba Osaka 2-0 Vegalta Sendai

A very healthy crowd of over 26,000 fans saw Gamba pull off another efficient home win and Takashi Usami and Ademilson add to their goal tallies for the season, as the home team triumphed 2-0 over Vegalta Sendai, to keep hold of a top half place in J1.

Gamba started at a fast pace, attacking quickly and in the 5th minute saw Shinya Kajima acrobatic volley over the bar give a taste of what was to come later. Before Gamba had it their own way, though, their former striker Shun Nagasawa was doing his best to spoil the party, first with a deft chip past Masaaki Higashiiguchi, who did just enough to force the forward's attempt wide, and then with a header down low to the 'keeper's left, which was saved well.

As the home team got more into the match, though, more space and opportunities were created and Ademilson should have scored a left foot volley just after the half hour, after a pass on the turn across the area from Hiroki Fujiharu, the ball skimming just past the post.

Gamba's patent passing game was there for all to see a few minutes before the hour was up, as a move on the right between four players, saw multiple passes before space opened up for the cross, Ademilson being inches away from connecting to open the scoring.

The opening finally came for Takashi Usami, who latched on to a loose ball in his own half in the 69th minute and raced forward, getting away from one player, slipping the ball over another and then advancing on goal as three more defenders closed in. He blasted home before anyone could get close to him and Gamba were deservedly in the lead.

Less than 1- minutes after his goal Usami turned provider, moving on to a lobbed pass and in turn lobbing the ball first time, forward again, and into the path of Ademilson. The plucky Brazilian let the ball bounce and then helped it over the advancing goalkeeper to wrap up the points for the home team. Even then Gamba were looking for more goals and should have made it 3-0 with the final play of the game as Patric raced on to a quick ball out of defence, followed by four Gamba players, up against one defender. Patric slipped the ball across to substitute Markel Susaeta - only on the field for a few minutes - but the away 'keeper did well to smother the shot and the rebound, falling to Fujiharu looked to be an easy conversion but the wing back fluffed his lines and put it wide and the game was over.
