J1 Returns to Action With An Osaka Derby!

next
On Monday evening, June 15th, the J.League and all clubs within announced the fixtures that will re-open J.League action after seeing 19 match-days postponed due to the impact of Covid-19 restrictions. J1 re-starts on July 4th with a full schedule all kicking off in the evening.

Gamba Osaka restart their season with the Osaka Derby from 18.00 on that day, as J.League consciously try to keep games reasonably local, with less travel for the squads for the first few weeks wherever possible. The games on July 4th will be played behind closed doors as J1 re-opens without fans in attendance. J.League has announced that games without fans will be known as "Remote Matches".

The Levain Cup’s two un-played group stage games will be on Wednesdays - August 5th and 12th - with the quarter-finals and semi-finals (both one-off games, as opposed to two legged affairs) on September 2nd and October 7th, and the final taking place on November 7.

The 100th Emperor's Cup has been given an unusual schedule, to alleviate a fixture pile-up in J.League, with only non-league clubs taking part until the semi-finals, scheduled for December 27th. The top two finishers in J1 will come in as seeds to play against the two remaining non-league clubs on that day, with the final, as usual on January 1st, 2021.

The Gamba Under-23 team opens their J3 campaign a week earlier than J1, with a full season ahead of them, although their season has been cut from 38 matches, to 34, with the withdrawal of FC Tokyo's Under-23 team.
