With today's MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE 38th Sec. match against Sanfrecce Hiroshima, GAMBA OSAKA's official J.League matches for the 2024 season have now concluded.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our fans, supporters, partners, hometown, and everyone associated with GAMBA OSAKA for the support and encouragement that has made this season possible.
Starting this season, the Football Department was established, and Hiroshi MATSUDA was appointed as the Senior Manager of the department, and Head Coach 's winning style was developed. In DANIEL POYATOS ' second season as Head Coach , 13 players were added to each position, including defender DF Shinnosuke NAKATANI, MF Tokuma SUZUKI, FW WELTON , goalkeeper Jun ICHIMORI Isa SAKAMOTO , who could embody the manager's tactics. In addition, retired player Yasuhito Endo returned to the club as a coach, aiming to create a "strong Gamba."
Although the opening game was a draw against Machida away, the team won the opening game at home against Niigata, and won consecutive games against Iwata, getting off to a good start. Although there were times when they struggled, they won the Osaka Derby in May with a goal from captain Usami, and were able to share their joy with the fans and supporters at a packed Panasonic Stadium Suita. In terms of football, the existing players and new players blended together, and there were more games where they took the initiative and pushed into the opponent's territory, and at the same time, when it was time to defend, they showed unity as a team, and there were games where they persevered and won, making them a reassuring team. In the EMPEROR'S CUP, the team came together from the first game against Fukushima United FC, and advanced to the final for the first time since the 2020 season, and although they unfortunately did not win the title, it was a result that showed the team's definite growth. In the league, they finished in 4th place, which was higher than the 7th place that they had set as their goal for this season, and they made a big leap from last season, leaving them with the possibility of challenging the battle in Asia next season.
Thanks to the support and encouragement of our fans, supporters, partners, hometown, and everyone involved with the club, the attendance at home games in the 2024 league season was 495,832 people, the highest number ever. It was our greatest joy to share the thrill of victory with so many people at the enthusiastic and unified Panasonic Stadium. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who came to the event. We hope that the entire stadium will continue to support our players next season.
Once again, thank you very much for your support and encouragement this season. Next season, we will aim for even greater heights and strive to create even more opportunities to share joy with you all.
