Head Coach comments after the match
The players fought hard until the very end, and many supporters came out despite the rain. I think that their support gave us the strength to beat Nagoya today.
It was a tough game after we conceded the first goal, but the situation remained that we needed to score an away goal, so I think it was good that we remained calm and played well, and I also think it was great that we were able to catch up in the first half.
However, Omori, who was used as a substitute, was injured in an accident and we had to play the next game right away, so I think he was quite exhausted during the extra time.
At the end of the first half, we talked about playing a little too far back, and we were pushed back a bit, but I think they responded with great determination.
We were under a lot of pressure as we were the second team to take the penalty kick, but while the other team was scoring, everyone did well in such a difficult situation. Iwashita missed it, though. Iwashita said, "I'm OK with the penalty kick. I'll be the sixth to take it," but he missed it. But I think it was great that Fujigaya and Fujiharu, who said they "absolutely didn't want to take it," scored, and Fuji also stayed calm and scored in the end.
I think most of our players played, including in the 1st Leg, but we were able to beat Nagoya in both matches, which is a great result for the league and ACL, and we want to continue this kind of victory in the future. We also won the Nabisco Cup last season, so it seems we will be facing Niigata again in October, but we will prepare well and fight to win the title this season.
Q: During the penalty shootout, the opposing team changed GK. What kind of instructions did you give them?
A: I didn't give any instructions. I just thought, since we've come this far, let's go home victorious.
Losing in a penalty shootout and being on a bus for two hours is tough, so in that sense I think the fact that we can go home with a win today means that they fought well and made calm goals.
