Head Coach comments after the match
My thoughts after the game were that I was really disappointed. I haven't met the Head Coach yet so I don't know what he thought, but before the game we were talking about going for the win, so I'm really disappointed that we lost.
Q: Considering that you weren't able to score an away goal in the Jeonbuk match, do you see scoring an away goal today as a positive for the next match?
A: As you just said, it's very positive that we were able to score an away goal, and I thought it would be very difficult to score an away goal at Guangzhou's home ground, so I think it was great that we were able to score it so early in the first half. However, it's frustrating that we lost. It would have been best if we'd drawn 1-1 or 2-2, but the fact that we lost 1-2 isn't bad at all. I really hope that we can use that away goal to our advantage in the second home game.
Q: How did Guangzhou Evergrande 's performance compare to what you expected?
A: As expected, I thought they were a team with strong individual players and very strong physical strength, and I think the players were aware of that. However, there were also parts where they were not defeated, so I think they were able to fight in that area, and I hope they can make use of that in the second leg. Also, there were some differences between watching the video and actually playing, so I hope we can make use of what we were able to do in the first leg in the second leg. Of course, Guangzhou is strong away from home, and they beat Kashiwa 3-1, so I think they are a strong team.
Q: After you were overtaken, did you go for one more goal, an equalizer, or would a 1-2 score have been fine? What kind of choices did you make on the pitch?
A: Before the match, I was talking with the Head Coach about how we would play depending on the situation, and he said that we wanted to win the match, so even after we were behind 1-2, I wanted to keep our attacking attitude in mind. However, if we were too aggressive, Guangzhou would be sharp in their counter attacks and they have a lot of players who can score, so I tried to manage the risk, keep a balance, and think about not allowing them to score a third goal, and I wanted to take some risks and score. I think that's probably what the Head Coach thought.
Q: You didn't create many decisive moments, but was Guangzhou's defense better than you expected? And were you able to find any ways to break down their defense in the 2nd Leg?
A: We didn't have many chances to score, but it was good that we scored, and we had anticipated Guangzhou's defense, so we trained to break it down, but we also had some difficulties with passing in the process of getting to the final shot. There is still the second leg to go, so there are some things I can't say here about breaking down the defense, but if we can attack with a higher quality, which is typical of Gamba, I think we will probably have more chances to score.
