Head Coach comments after the match
Q. What did you emphasize to your teammates before the match regarding how to start the game?
Head Coach Miyamoto: "The opponent is a team that doesn't concede many goals, so if we concede the first goal, the game will be difficult. We have been doing that kind of training and we talked about it in the meeting just before today's game. In that situation, I think there must be a big problem if we concede in the first two minutes."
Q: "What are the big problems?"
Head Coach Miyamoto: "I spoke with the players after the match, and I think there is a gap in their hearts, that they think they are a team that has won titles before. Each of the players commented that there was a little complacency in training and within the team, and this match made me feel that we need to be more realistic about where we are and what we are doing."
Q. "Regarding the two goals conceded, you shut down the opponent's attack once and repelled it, but then you lost the ball again. I feel like we've been conceding a few too many goals like that since the start of this season. Was there a misjudgment in the way you connected and carried the ball? How do you analyze the cause?"
Head Coach Miyamoto: "I only saw the scene where we conceded the goal from the sidelines, so it's difficult to look back on it in detail now and I can't comment on it in detail, but our aim is to value the ball we steal and to get it forward quickly and attack quickly. Of course, if that doesn't work out well, for example in the opening game, we'll make adjustments each time, and I think the good parts of the Kobe match were that we were able to attack quickly after getting the ball, and we've talked about keeping the good parts while also thinking about the different quality of the opponent and moving forward in the game."
Q. "You try to keep the good parts and move on to the next game, but you end up with ups and downs in each game. Do you think that this leads to the complacency you mentioned earlier?"
Head Coach: "I think there are some things that can't be dismissed as just being lax, and of course there are areas where we need to raise the level of the training and the individual players, but as I said before, the feeling among the players, a little bit of laxity within the team, things like that may have had an impact. That can't be shown in a game like today, and we have been told that we need to change that. As long as we have that laxity, we can't change. It has become difficult to move up the rankings."
Q. "We conceded four goals in the last match, but we didn't change the members this time. We had a talented player like Konno on the bench. Was it a condition issue, or is it because we have higher expectations for the players who are currently on the field to improve?"
Head Coach, "I've talked to Konno about it, but he's not in top condition."
