Head Coach comments after the match
Q: "There were some issues with the opponent, but I think you had a good feeling with the ball. From your perspective as the Head Coach, what did you do well? I think you've won two Levain Cup matches in a row in good form, but how do you want to carry this over to the league?"
Head Coach: "We had a good shape, we had more time to hold the ball, and of course the opponent's way of doing things is different, but in that situation, we started to challenge the ball a little near the penalty area, or rather we made a wedge switch, and we made plays when both teams' positioning improved, and I think we got better from about the middle of the first half. We scored a goal from a set piece in an ideal way, which was one of our goals, so I think it was good. In the second half, we were tied, but the new players brought fresh energy to the team, and I thought we might be a little down when the score was 1-1, but the players' strong desire to win a playoff spot at home was apparent, and I think it was good that we didn't lose focus on the defensive side. Of course, I think that the flow of the league, the performance of young players, and the fierceness of the team will have a positive effect on the team, so I would like to fight in the league while making use of those things.
It was the same in the last J-League match, but there were times in the match against Tokyo where we had a firm grip on the ball, and we need to improve our accuracy in the final stages. I think the same issues arose today as in the past. I think the only way to deal with that is to train hard.
Q: "Today you selected Takao as the right-back. What characteristics did you want him to demonstrate?"
Head Coach Miyamoto: "I think his debut was a little late. Of course, we had high expectations for him from the spring training camp, and he still lacked the skills to play in professional matches, so he played in U-23 matches and trained there, which has changed his mindset, so I thought he was ready to play today, and that's why I chose him to play today."
What we were looking for was someone who is good at attacking, so I think his speed and sharpness near the opponent's penalty area, and his ability to choose to play aggressively towards the goal are his characteristics. I think he made a few plays like that. However, the final pass was a little inaccurate, and of course the opponent was under a lot of pressure, so it's a little disappointing that we didn't end up scoring, but I think we got a glimpse of the potential he has.
Q: Regarding the right side, you called Fujimoto in during the first half to give him instructions, and you also made some substitutions during the game. Could you please tell us how you were trying to make the right side function?
Head Coach Miyamoto: "We spent a lot of time moving the ball in front of the opponent on the right side, so we could have opened up the vital area by getting behind the defense a bit more, or used a one-touch flick or a ball behind the opponent to create an opening there. We weren't doing so well on the left side, but we wanted to use that on the right side, and Fujimoto is left-footed, so that was part of it. As for the substitutions, we brought in the fresh Fukuda when the opponent came forward with power, while also taking care of the defense, and we also wanted to aim for additional points. He had shown good performances in the J3 league, so I used him in the hope that we could show that in today's game."
