Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "First of all, to be honest, I'm very disappointed. Everyone involved with Gamba is fighting every single game with the desire to win, so I don't think anyone can be satisfied that we weren't able to achieve that. I think the game went as we had envisioned in the first half. We were able to control our own fatigue by changing our system against Kashima's fluid 4-4-2 system. We knew that fatigue would set in in the second half, so we tried to respond by bringing in fresh players. Kashima had periods in the second half that took control of the game, but from around the 60th to 70th minute, we were creating more chances. We were under pressure at the end, but it was good that we were able to substitute great players like Suzuki and Leonardo De Sousa Pereira(LEO CEARA), but ultimately, it's disappointing that we couldn't win."
Q: "You came back from the hot and humid conditions in Thailand with only 2nd year of junior high school, so I imagine it was a pretty tough game. What do you think of starting with a three-back formation and using MITO in the second row? What do you think of him?"
Head Coach Poyatos said, "In assessing the three-back formation, rather than changing the system, one of our aims was to create an advantage, and Handa was also showing signs of fatigue, so I think that by placing players on the sides of the three defenders, we were able to reduce Handa's up and down movement. MITO's side looked tired overall, so I wanted to increase the intensity, and after receiving the staff's suggestions, I sent him onto the pitch, and I think that this substitution was a success."
