Head Coach comments after the match
Today, we were able to take the lead, but we couldn't win, and the players were determined to give the supporters a victory. I told the players to play aggressively again today, and when the second half started, we talked about going in again and trying to get a second goal, but the tempo didn't pick up in the second half. In that situation, with consecutive games, we replaced Endo with Konno to take the initiative by taking advantage of his aggressiveness in the midfield, but we conceded a goal right away, so we dropped Kurata to defensive midfielder, and the tempo picked up considerably from there, and we created some scoring opportunities in the final minutes, but in the end, we couldn't get the second goal today. However, I believe that the players were naturally determined to win at home and fought until the end, and I believe that they showed that attitude until the end on the field today as well. So, although it is currently a difficult time to rack up wins, we must hang in there and, although we will continue with away games with two or three days in between, we will all work together as a team to overcome these frustrating and difficult times and become a stronger Gamba in these two days, by preparing thoroughly and fighting.
Q: The tempo didn't pick up in the second half. What do you think was the reason for this?
A We had some good ball movement in the midfield and some moves from our front line, but we didn't take the ball well, our momentum dropped and we were hit with counter attacks, so I think that played a part here to some extent.
Q: Tosu has only had meetings about their system and have not had any practice, and Toyoda is not even there, so what are your predictions in that regard and how have your preparations been regarding Tosu?
A: I didn't think they would play with three backs at all. I knew it was going to be three backs when we started the game. However, we were playing against a 3-6-1 opponent, so I think the players adjusted and fought accordingly. When we're doing well, I think Takashi's move was a penalty kick, and when the situation is good, the referee's decisions tend to favor us, but when it came to the second goal, the referees didn't go our way today either. However, there are times like this, and conversely, there are games where we win with those kind of decisions, so there's no need to argue about that. In that situation, after scoring one in the first half, they created opportunities to score the second, so I don't think we struggled to attack because the opponent was playing with three backs. With Toyoda out due to injury, I told some of the players to stay alert and play well, and they were focused from the warm-up before the game. On the other hand, Tosu decided to tighten their defense and aim for a strong counter attack, and without Toyoda they seemed to be more solid as a team, so I don't think they were confused when the opponents played with a three-back formation, and I also expected that they would switch to a four-back formation since they were behind and losing, so I think the fact that they weren't able to score a second goal in that situation was the reason they didn't win the game.
Q: Is Kurata's recovery a positive thing?
A: Yes. I think he's tired from playing consecutive games throughout the fall, but he's a player who can really add that kind of accent, and I think it's good for the team that he's back in form.
Q: With you going through a tough time right now, what areas of your offense do you need to improve on?
A It's not that we haven't been able to create any chances at all, and I don't think we're unable to shoot like we were last year, and we scored the opening goal, and in the last few games we've been able to score second goals, and we've had a hard time winning, but there have been games where we've held on to the defense when we were struggling in the first half and kept the score at zero, and we've just not been doing well in the match, and if we're not getting any chances in attack, we have to think about it, but some of the players on the wings are showing signs of recovery, and the FW are scoring, so in that sense I don't think there's anything new to be done in terms of attack. The scene where we conceded a goal today was a quick throw-in. We lost our concentration a little there, and the opponent's response, the long throw, I think we lost our concentration for a moment, and even in the last part of the previous match, we were 2-0 at the end, and we didn't have the power to go for the third goal, and I think we were caught off guard for a moment, so in order to win, we need to stay focused until the end and always keep fighting with an attitude of aiming for the opponent's goal.
