Head Coach comments after the match
I think we deserved to lose today. At the start of the game, even though the opponent was down to 10 men, we lost concentration for a moment and conceded the opening goal. After we tied the score, I think we had several chances, but we couldn't score when we should have. Also, our risk management against counterattacks, one of FC Tokyo's strengths, was very poor. In the scene where we conceded the goal, both defensive midfielders went up at the same time. Despite that, both fullbacks still have some weaknesses in terms of risk management. If we did what we had to do and FC Tokyo beat us, then it can't be helped, but the fact that we were beaten in an area where we should have been careful and not let them score shows that we still have some weaknesses.
We have 10 games left, and we've made sure to switch gears when we need to, and I think we've made some improvements in terms of our performance, so we need to be even more strict in taking advantage of those opportunities and, conversely, snuff out the opponent's chances. We have another week to check in with the team and get ready for the home game.
Q: This is your first match against FC Tokyo since the start of the season. Has your impression of the game changed?
A: I think Maeda's starting point was very important. We couldn't pick up the second ball at all, especially in the first half, so I think FC Tokyo started better, and I think we were also lacking in the first contact, so I think his presence was very important. Nathan Joel Burns(NATHAN BURNS) has also become quite accustomed to Japanese football, and his dribbles have caused problems on the right side a few times, so although I haven't checked the video yet, I think there are still some areas that need to be properly corrected.
Q: You placed Kurata as an attacking midfielder and Usami on the left wing, but was this an intention and was it effective?
A: We haven't stopped using Anderson PATRIC Aguiar Oliveira and Usami as a two-top, and we'd like to use them together depending on the game. This time, we put Kurata at the bottom of the attack and Takashi on the left. Our attacks were fast and monotonous, so we want to create more time for ourselves, increase the number of opportunities to break down the defense, and improve their combination, as a team. We need to take another step up, because I think the opponents have studied the two-top of Anderson PATRIC Aguiar Oliveira and Usami quite a bit. We wanted to have solid options as a team and fight in the final stages of the game, so we used Kurata as a bottom of the attack.
We played very well in the River Plate match, and Kurata's condition is improving, so today we were able to create some big chances with Takashi and Kurata building up the defense, and then Endo got involved, and Fujiharu came forward and sent in some crosses, but I think there were some parts where we weren't able to finish them off, so I don't think the feeling overall was bad, but I think there were still some areas where we needed to be a little looser in the details in today's match.
