Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach: "It was a very disappointing result. In the end, it was a game where we felt there was a slight difference in strength, but I think they fought really well in the first half. We scored two goals from counterattacks, especially after the 1-1 score, but we were able to stay focused and overcome that, which led to the second goal, and I think we fought very well against Hiroshima in the first half. In the second half, it was natural that the opponents would come out, and although we had a chance to score a third goal on the counterattack, we were unable to score, which I think was the key point of today's game. I thought it was an easier situation than the first half, and that's a bit disappointing. However, after that, we continued to have possession of the ball, so I was trying to make the most of the tiring position by playing as a side half, but I think it was a position that I was a bit unfamiliar with, and that was used against us, allowing the opponent to carry the ball to the front of the goal, which I think was the reason why we decided the game, and I think there is still room for improvement in that area."
Q: As Head Coach Matsuda said, in the first half we played the kind of football we wanted to play, with compact movements and quick vertical attacks, but in the second half, when the opponent quickly changed sides, we seemed to be slow to slide and unable to reach the ball. How do you think we should fix that?
Head Coach: "Those kinds of situations were expected, and there were some in the first half too. However, I felt that the pressure was a little weak when the ball was changed to the side in the first half. It's better not to change sides, so in that sense the quality of the first defender is important, and if the side halves and fullbacks can play more predictable defense when the ball is changed to the side, I think that could increase the intensity and allow us to take the ball in a 2-on-1 situation."
Q: "Today, we scored two goals but lost five. It was Head Coach first match, so what do you feel is the bigger challenge? Is it a good feeling or a problem?"
Head Coach: "Yes, I think it's a bit of a hastily put together system and tactics, but there are still areas where we're unfamiliar with things, and the details are important to make them work, so there's still a lot we need to do, and overall I think the team hasn't been very good at getting close to the ball or being strong enough. I feel like we won't be able to play a good game unless we improve a bit in that area. In the end, I think it was Hiroshima's quality that broke through that, so I'd like to be able to get better at the basics and play more solid games."
Q: "I believe this was Pereira Leandro Marcos(LEANDRO PEREIRA)'s first start in three months. Why did you choose him and why was he substituted in the first half?"
Head Coach: "I've only been watching them practice for about a week, but I felt that they were very high quality players, and (Hiroshima), which is my former club, is also Anderson PATRIC Aguiar Oliveira, so I decided to use them because I felt that they had that quality and were highly motivated. I felt that this would put pressure on the opponents, so I wanted to use our resources effectively. Also, the player himself said that he felt a bit uneasy, so I substituted him to be on the safe side and to make sure it didn't drag on for too long, and (Suzuki) Musashi was there too, so I felt that I should substitute him."
Q: "I think there were many scenes in the first half where Hiroshima's Sasaki was able to make vertical passes, but was that something that was acceptable to a certain extent given Head Coach Matsuda's style of play?"
Head Coach: "No, that's something we definitely shouldn't let them do. The midfielders in particular need to be careful, and while it's one thing to swing the ball to the opposite side, we don't want them to make a vertical pass with a grounder."
Q: "Is it not the FW who should be doing the attacking move, but rather the midfielders who shouldn't open the gate there?"
Head Coach: "If Sasaki is way out wide, the FW can't get there, so if he can get in a little closer to the center, it's a matter of how much pressure the FW can put on, and then the midfielders might not have to close the gate as much, so I think it's a combination of both factors."
Q: "Five of the starters have been changed since the previous match. Including the method, when you communicated today's starters to the team, what criteria did you use to select them, and how did you explain how you would play?"
Head Coach: "I chose players who I saw and expected would adapt to the change in the system, and as I said before, I chose the front line because I wanted them to have power and put pressure on the opponent, or rather, to make them feel pressure. However, I didn't know the characteristics of the players or the details, so I got information from the coaches and made the final decision myself. Since the players were selected, I want them to live up to my expectations, and I want the players who got new chances to play to live up to my expectations. As for the players who weren't selected, I still haven't been able to make accurate choices, so I want them to show that they can contribute to the football I want to play in training and as substitutes, and play in a way that makes me think that I made a wrong decision." I also told the players who weren't on the team the same thing.
Q: "To be honest, the second and third goals we conceded today were very difficult to defend against. I think we could have recovered from that, but we continued to concede goals one after the other. Does that reflect the current state of the team?"
Head Coach: "I don't know for sure until I ask the players, but I think that teams that are far from winning tend to do that. I want to improve that mentality, and it's not just about getting stronger, but focusing on what's in front of you, focusing on the present. Even if we're tied, we can win by scoring a third point, and I think that's what mentally strong people are like, and if you don't have that mindset, you won't be able to do what you can do. By conveying that to them, even if they win, they won't feel like they've won, and even if they lose, it doesn't mean they've already lost. I want them to focus on the play in front of them with that mentality, and I want them to play by focusing on what they need to do now, that's all."
