Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "I want to say this with all my respect, and I myself always have respect for the team, so I would like to take this opportunity to say something. First of all, I think this match showed the level that both teams have, and I would like to congratulate Marinos on their victory. However, there is one sad point, and I will say it directly now, but I personally think that in the best league in Asia, the J-League, there really needs to be more improvement in the refereeing, and I think that the referees need to help each other more. What is the purpose of VAR? Even though VAR is always there, there are many strange mistakes in some games every week. As the person in charge of GAMBA OSAKA, I have respect for Japanese football, so I would like to make the opposite request. And I think that Japanese football needs to be improved to be even better. "
Q: "I think Head Coach Poyatos is referring to the penalty kicks in terms of refereeing. The first penalty kick may have been taken by the GK. The second penalty kick looked like three or four Yokohama F. Marinos players were in the box before the shot was taken. Which one are you referring to?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "Regarding Higashiguchi (in the first penalty kick), he certainly went over the goal line. I think he definitely moved a few centimeters, maybe a few meters. But VAR immediately intervened after that. And the kick was retaken. After that, as you said, several players, not just one, but several players, entered the penalty early, but there was no VAR intervention in that area, so I think the referee's intention was clearly different. When Higashiguchi moved a few centimeters or meters, VAR immediately came in with intention. However, when several Marinos players entered the penalty area, the referee had some intention and did not come in with VAR. I think there must be some kind of intention on the part of the referee. And when we played at home, Eduardo played a handball. But the whistle was not blown. I think there was probably some intention. Before that, when we played away against Urawa, our Fukuoka team was awarded a penalty in almost the same situation. I think there is probably some kind of intention behind this judgment. So I would like to ask you guys a question: What do you think is the intention behind this?
Q: Regarding that decision, did you receive any explanation from the Head Coach during or after the game?
Head Coach Poyatos: "There was an incident where I thought something really strange was happening, and when some of our players went to ask about it, it seems that one of our players was told by the assistant referee that in the second incident, if the GK didn't intend for the ball to bounce back when he deflected it, it was okay for it to go in. But that rule doesn't actually exist, so I was honestly wondering if it was okay to hear that explanation."
Q: "It was a good game, so I'd like to ask you about the game. Today, Fukuoka was deployed as a right-back, and although he cramped at the end, I think he performed well. What was your intention in deploying him and what is your evaluation?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I think Shota (Fukuoka) did a good job, and while analyzing Marinos, I realized they have good wingers on both wingers, so I thought we needed agile players to deal with them, and so today I went with Kurokawa and Fukuoka, and I think they handled the speed well, and didn't let them create any scary scenes, and I think they did a good job."
Q: "Miura was substituted during the game. How is his injury progressing?"
Head Coach Poyatos said, "It seems that he was stepped on hard and suffered quite a bit of damage, and the player complained that the pain remained during the game, so I had no choice but to substitute him. I hope that it is not serious, but with that in mind, I made the substitution."
