Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "It was a difficult match, and I really want to take this opportunity to apologize to the fans and supporters. We really didn't start well, and I think the reason we didn't start well is because of the flow and results of the past few weeks, the tension of the match, and all of those kinds of things. But I want to apologize for not starting well, and I want to congratulate Hiroshima for beating Gamba today."
Q: "Today, the match started poorly, so I think you started with a three-back formation. What was your intention behind that and what is your assessment of today's match?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "First of all, I would like to answer the question about the intention of the three-back formation. We have Douglas, Kato, and Mitsuda, who are threatening players in the front line, and we knew that they would move dynamically, so one of our aims was to make the center stronger, as we have not been able to fight well in the center this season. Also, we have been conceding goals due to simple mistakes, so we went with the intention of playing with three backs. As for the other evaluation point, I don't think it was very good. Rather than focusing on the three-back formation, I think we need to make adjustments and improvements to play better defense as a team, and I think we need to work more on how we can endure and fight, especially when there are difficult moments in the game."
Q: "Today's result has secured your place in J1, but can you comment on that?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I can't really look back on the season yet, and I can't really evaluate it. There's still one game left, so I can't really look back on the season in detail, but I've been here as a new Head Coach this season, and I've been following my own ideas. At the beginning of the season, we struggled, conceding goals due to simple mistakes, but then the team started to grow and we got into a winning streak and were able to show the strength of the team. After that, in the last two months or so, I think I was mentally damaged, especially in the match against Urawa, when we were in a good streak and we were progressing that far, but we lost, and we didn't get the results we wanted. After that, the team's streak didn't improve, and we had more injuries and withdrawals, and players like Neta (Ravi), Alano, and JEBALI were also not in good condition due to travel (for international matches) and injuries, and we couldn't fight in a good streak until the end of the season. Looking ahead to next season, I'd like to look back on ourselves and build a team that can fight well, and as I said at the beginning, I want to do my best to bring Gamba back to where it belongs."
